Professor Myra Bluebond-Langner, The True Colours Chair in Palliative Care for Children and Young People at the Louis Dundas Centre for Children’s Palliative Care, UCL GOS ICH will retire on 31st December 2021.

Professor Bluebond-Langner is a pioneer for children’s palliative care and her work in the UK encompasses many firsts. The True Colours Chair is the UK’s first, and only, professorial chair in children’s palliative care.  In 2010 Professor Bluebond-Langner also became the first Director of the Louis Dundas Centre for Children’s Palliative Care – a unique centre of research, teaching and clinical practice at UCL GOS ICH, that has been supported through GOSH Charity.

The Chair and the Louis Dundas Centre were established to improve the evidence base for children’s palliative care, helping further access to the very best care for children and families. In her ten-year tenure, Professor Myra Bluebond-Langer has worked tirelessly to further this mission. An external review of the Chair’s work in 2018 highlighted the calibre of her work, which combines her unique skills with those of her multi-disciplinary team. The External Review Board noted their expectation that Bluebond-Langner’s work on decision making would ‘become a gold standard reference in years to come’.

Since becoming the True Colours Chair in 2010 Professor Bluebond-Langner has led the field with her passion, academic rigour and commitment to children’s palliative care. We are grateful for all she has done for the sector over the last ten years. We can say with great certainty that her work will improve the way services are delivered now and, in the future, in London, the UK and the world.

UCL GOS ICH will now work with GOSH Charity, the Louis Dundas Centre Steering Committee and the True Colours Trust to appoint a successor to continue to realise the founding vision behind the establishment of the Chair.
