Heart n Soul is best known for the Beautiful Octopus Club, an adult club which showcases work by people with learning disabilities.   Since 2007, the True Colours Trust has been supporting Heart n Soul to develop its work with young people aged 14 -25 which is called 'Our Scene'.  It comprises individual and group sessions in music, dance and drama as well as an Octopus style club called the Squidz Club.

Squidz clubs usually have a number of scheduled performances for artists Heart n Soul has been working with, as well as an open-mike event for those who decide to perform on the night.  It's a participatory event and there are a number of other activities people can try, such as DJing, VJing, drama and fancy dress.

True Colours has committed a further £150,000 over the next three years to Heart n Soul enabling the organisation to:

  • Continue the provision of its club nights for young disabled people
  • Provide creative half-term workshops
  • Develop its 'Our Scene' website
  • Evaluate its work to ascertain the effect that involvement with the arts has upon young people with learning disabilities
  • Expand 'Our Scene' to a number of other UK regions
